Andrew McHugh is an award-winning director, creative director and designer working across immersive installations, interactive experiences, animation and broadcast media. A two-time RTS Award recipient for immersive projects, his work has also received a DANI Award and Best Animation at the Roma Short Film Festival, with projects screened internationally and nominated for the BolognaRagazzi Digital Award.
His practice centres on directing original audience experiences, combining strong visual storytelling, world-building and concept development to translate complex ideas into engaging and accessible narratives. Working across physical, digital and hybrid spaces, Andrew develops projects from initial vision through to delivery, shaping both creative direction and audience experience.
Andrew leads multidisciplinary teams across immersive installations, digital environments and narrative-led commissions, including projects for the BBC. His background spans creative direction, design and UX, alongside writing and producing for radio and audio platforms. He is the creator and writer of Nodes in Space, an original audio series for Dublin Digital Radio, has worked as a radio producer for Subtle Radio and Worldwide FM, and contributed as a writer to the award-winning animated short Sea Beast.
His immersive and interactive work has been exhibited at The Ulster Museum, The MAC Belfast and Sonorities Festival, and was featured in Creative Review's Annual Awards 2025. Across all projects, Andrew's approach is rooted in using technology and design in service of a clear creative vision, crafting meaningful experiences that connect audiences with ideas, stories and place.
