Queen's University Belfast wanted to communicate the opportunities for Net Zero growth in a way that felt clear, energising, and human. Not a policy document. Not a data dump. A story people could step into. The audience ranged from researchers and industry partners to civic leaders and future students. The message needed to hold complexity, without feeling overwhelming.

Our Approach
We believe playful, joyful work can cut through, not by shouting louder, but by inviting people in.So we designed a motion graphic explainer that translated strategy into possibility.
Collage became our visual language.
Why collage?
Because Net Zero is about reuse. Reimagining. Rebuilding from what already exists.
We created a layered, textured world built from cut paper, scanned materials, bold typography, and moving shapes. Elements were assembled, reassembled, and transformed on screen, mirroring the circular economy at the heart of the message.
Nothing felt static. Everything evolved.
This wasn’t decoration.
It was concept and craft working together.
Design Meets Sound
As always, we designed how it looks, how it moves, and how it feels.
Rhythm played a central role. Transitions had pace. Movement had intention. Sound design added warmth and momentum, guiding the viewer through key ideas without overwhelm.
Clarity was everything.
Short statements.
Confident framing.
Space to breathe.
We shaped the narrative to highlight opportunity, innovation, collaboration, green skills, economic growth, while grounding it in real-world impact.
Purpose-led. Never preachy.
The Outcome
The final film positioned Queen’s as a leader in Net Zero research and innovation, but more importantly, as a connector. A place where academia, industry, and community meet to build something better.
The collage aesthetic made the message tangible. Human. Optimistic. It invited viewers to imagine a future that’s not just sustainable, but thriving.
Why It Worked
Play with purpose – Every visual choice reflected the theme of reuse and regeneration.
Design for impact – Complex information became emotionally clear and accessible.
Care in the craft – Thoughtful pacing, layered detail, and considered sound design.
Create joy – Even serious topics deserve warmth and possibility.
Net Zero is urgent.
But urgency doesn’t have to feel heavy.
Sometimes, the best way to talk about the future
is to build it, piece by piece, in motion.
